Bihar board 10th result 2017 declared, taking the overall pass percentage to 50.12, Prem Kumar tops

A total of 8,63,950 students passed out of the 17,23,911 lakh who took the matriculation examination this year, taking the overall pass percentage to 50.12, marginally higher than 46.6% in 2016.

Prem Kumar of the Sree Govind High School, Mano, in Lakhisarai district, topped the exams with 465 out of 500, securing 93% marks. Bhavya Kumari of Simultala residential school in Jamui district came second with 464 out of 500 marks (92.8%), followed by Harshita Kumari with 462 out of 500 (92.4%) marks.

About 13.91% students secured first division, 26.88% got a second division and 9.32% got third division.

In fact, the Class 10 results were delayed as some of the toppers failed to appear before its board for a physical verification. About 40 students in the top 10 list were summoned for the physical check and review of their copies.

What did physical verification involve? The second topper, Bhavya Kumari, said she had to appear for an interview before a panel of subject experts who asked me different questions.”

The Bihar government has announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, laptop and e-book reader for the topper. The second topper will get a Rs 50,000 cash incentive, laptop and e-book and the third rank holder will get Rs 15,000 cash, laptop and e-book.

There Bihar board had granted 8 grace marks to students to improve the overall pass percentage this year. The BSEB had taken the state government’s consent for the grant of 8 marks to students who failed in one subject and four in each subject for those who failed in two subjects.
