Shiva from Gaya topper of CBSE 12th in Bihar

Gaya girl Shiva, a science student of Creane Memorial High School, bagged the first rank in state by scoring 97% in CBSE Class XII examination, the results of which were announced on Sunday.

Daughter of cooperative extension officer Arvind Kumar and homemaker Neelam Sharma, Shiva scored 99 each in mathematics and physical education, 97 in physics, 96 in chemistry and 94 in English. She wants to pursue engineering course before trying her luck in Indian Administrative Service. Shiva has credited her success to her grandfather Akhileshwar Sharma, a retired assistant superintendent of the Gaya Government Press.

Meanwhile, with a pass percentage of 81.70%, girls of CBSE’s Patna zone (Bihar and Jharkhand) have once again outperformed boys. Boys recorded a pass percentage of 70.40%. The overall pass percentage of Patna zone was 74.60%, lower than previous year’s 75.29%.

Officials of CBSE regional office said 70,211 students – 37,469 from Bihar and 32,742 from Jharkhand – took the exam from Patna zone this year. At 83% pass percentage, Jharkhand students fared better than their peers in Bihar, where the pass percentage was just 67%. Muskan Khowal, a science student of Delhi Public School, Ranchi, was the Patna zone topper with 98.2%.
